You will not want to be in the Hudson for sure!

A bad winter and you'll get major ice flows.

Try LI Sound - North Shore, Yonkers or New Rochelle

Hugo probably has the best suggestions. 79th Street either has a five year or a 20-year waiting list, depending on who you bribe. Ergh, ask. And I don't know about the inner docks at Liberty, but the marinas along the NJ side of the Hudson generally take a LOT of wake from commercial traffic. As long as you're not baking souffles, that may be a tradeoff worth doing for the location.

Traditionally, the NY metropolitan area had hard winters and lots of ice, making boats in the water and patrons on the icy docks a very bad idea. Most of the tourists and transients don't know about that and maybe with global warming, the insurers and marinas will rethink it.

Re: In search of Liveaboards in nyc or Long Island, ny

There are some marinas in NJ along the Hudson that allow liveaboards. Liberty Landing is one, but it is my understanding that most of the Marinas on that edge of the Hudson, is kinda rough water wise. I am not aware of any slipominiums in the area. That kind of seems to be a regional thing. Best thing is to actually get in a car and drive from marina to marina, as a good impression in person can mean a lot.

Pretty sure the 79th Street Boat Basin in Manhattan still allows a certain number of liveaboards, but I recall hearing there is a long waiting list.

Try South Minneford Yacht Club (run by owners of slips) in
City Island or Haven Marina in Manhasset Bay (rental slips to liveaboards).
