Re: Best way to attach keel cable?

But the clamps are a viable option? I just don't want to have the clamps fail while I'm out on the water

I'd think that bronze or Monel would be best but I doubt they are available - I'd imagine S/S is going to be the only real option for a fitting.

Otherwise I guess a spliced eye.

What material would you recomend for the swage.

Remember it is going to be in or near the spalsh zone.

A properly done swage is better than clamps. A poorly done swage is worse than clamps. If you go to swages, be sure you get them done by someone who knows what they're doing!

Why not replace the SS with dyneema and splice a ss thimble in it?

3 SS bulldog clamps, but like youi I wonder if this is best. Thought about a SS swage?

Best way to attach keel cable?

Right now I have two stainless wire rope clamps keeping my keel cable attached. It has served well while I was working on the boat, but I am nearing the end of my restoration, so I want to make sure I have something that will hold up when I put the boat in the water, and I'm worried that isn't the best set up to have when sailing.

For others out there with swing keels, how do you have your cable attached?
