I love the lines in a sailboat but my ignorance and laziness about sailing cut the mast and keel to make a power boat. So Now I got questions. (This boat will be use on a calm water lake in Keystone lake Oklahoma)

Did somebody has done this before in a 22 footer?
Without the weight of the keel 1300 lbs,mast 45 lbs, rigging and sails 65 lbs with a 9.9hp 2 stroke Johnson outboard
Did the hull speed change based on keel drag and weight reduction?
Did the engine would handle the boat in a windy day?
What kind of mods would you do on it?
What color should I paint it?
How much do you think it weights now?
If you don't like it, just leave the sailor out of you express himself.
Look the video and the photo album in my profile to give opinion or criticize it.

All info or critics would be deeply appreciated. Thank you for your time

My boat was newer '78 different designer and maybe yard but extremely well built. Others will speak to your model but I would prioritize an inspection as follows;
Hull inspection inside and out, blisters are costly but repairable, I wouldn't buy anything without knowing any issues and cost associated. Look at all the inside tabs, chainplates, deck leaks and delamination , motor beds etc.
Rigging inspection, anything look botched up or home-made looking, rust in swages on deck (you prob wont go aloft right away)
Interior water damage and such. Then on to systems and running gear.
Sails can be replaced budget $3000 at least each and you need good sails to feel good about sailing especially any kind of upwind duty.

Then a real survey, I wouldn't buy anything of any size without professional eyes on it. I have self maintained many Boats and hold a USCG license and a surveyor ALWAYS sees things I don't.

This is a big heavy old boat it will not preform like lighter boats, it will have its moments of brilliance, and you will motor a lot so don't cut the running gear short.
What you do have is a big spacious cruiser and in the right condition a well founded craft. Remember when they started building FG boats back in the late 50s nobody had any idea how long the materials would last, look where we are now the boats are crumbling around the fiberglass.

At the end of the day its a big boat with lots of stuff to keep in order, if you're not deterred by that find the right one and go for it.

I'm looking seriously at a '72 C45 motor sailor. Are there any common issues other than normal maintenance to be aware of on this model? What can i expect on point/reach/down wind?

How's the new Boat holding up, we had a 8.3 a few years back and I probably would have bought the same boat again if it was available.
Have recently moved into a CS 30 and can't help but compare everything to the Columbia, good or bad it was (and still is I'm sure) a wonderful and spacious design.

Well, sort of. They guy had sailed around the caribbean for few years with the boat...apparently liked to fish too. It sat in a bay not too far from my house called "Goodmans Bay" for over a year. In inquired, got in touch and found out he was leaving it...gave him some money and that's it. He, unfortunately, had not gotten a sailing permit from the Bahamian Government either so I've had to work with them (still am) to get it registered here in Nassau.....

Wow, looks pretty rough. Is that a crate engine? When you say abadoned, you mean literally abandoned in the Bahamas?

Just found an awesome downloadable file from Good Old Boat PDF files in their "Boat Reviews" section that can be purchased.
They had insightful article on Columbia 33 & 36'....which states that the 36' had a cockpit sole access to the engine compartment! Does anyone else have that on their boat? I've not, but was seriously considering making my own.....
