Re: 38 Starflight

Great advice. I reached out to Jim Taylor and eagerly await a reply.

Re: 38 Starflight

Well any vessel with only 10 made will be hard to find info on unless one of it's owners happened to have a blog, but even then it might not be accurate. I think the best route is going to be contact the designer:

Jim Taylor Yacht Designs Homepage (JTYD): Yacht Design, Design Consultation and Redesign of modern and classic yachts.

Assuming that is the same company. I have had a hard time finding info on a few boats I was looking at, that over a 100 were made.

Hi Faster. Funny you should mention the CS Merlin as that is what we just sold. You are right - there are similar lines. She seems solid enough, I only wish there was more info available. Thanks!

Re: 38 Starflight

Good looking boat.. kinda reminds me of the CS Merlin 36, or CS40. Taylor has a good rep, and while it would be nice to know of the builder, a good surveyor will be able to tell you whether or not she 'is' as good as she looks.

Rather heavy-looking joinery for what is meant to be a racer cruiser by the look of her shape but as long as it's not too dark it will be 'boaty and cosy'. Assuming she's a typical fin keel/spade rudder? Too bad you're right about lack of info online.

I wonder if she's a cruisier version of this '84 Taylor 38?

Re: 38 Starflight

Hey, thanks for getting back! What have you heard? We don't have much to go by and I'm not even sure Waterloo is where she was built. Crazy. No information anywhere. Please please share what you have heard as we are looking at one that is listed in the Toronto area. She looks really nice.

Re: 38 Starflight

She is a pretty, pretty boat, and Jim Taylor has a hell of a reputation. Having said that, I have never heard of largish boats being built in Waterloo, of all places.

There is precious little on the internet about a 38 footer designed by Jim Taylor. I've been told this boat was built in Waterloo, Ontario CANADA and the builder produced less than 10 vessels. Is there anyone out there that has any information on this boat which is reputed to be a blue water cruiser?
