Re: Estimate the length of this keel

Around me, shallow is if the depth guage reads, which is less than 600', most of the time it does not read but three dash's! i'd be worried about draft because why?!?!? if you are ove 10'deep most of the time, you would have 3' below you.....away you go!

I have always had deep draft, responsive and reasonably quick upwind boats. This boat is shoal draft (5'9") and it is great off the wind but a dog going to weather. She will not carry a chute at 110 degrees in 18 knots. She needs a viagra keel.
I am tired of shallow water. I want the boat for DEEP water which requires all the keel I can find.
My old 36 had a 6'4" draft and it was very agile and able

I tried that formula and came up with 5'4" +/-. Add the hull draft and we would make the 7'6".

You could also see how wide packing tape is and use that for a measure.

The pallets might not be standard but I am pretty sure they used dimensional lumber. That means the horizontals are 1x4 or something, so about 0.75" thick. That should allow you to get a rough measure.

Re: Estimate the length of this keel

Is there a bulb on the bottom to be bolted on at your place? if so, add a foot for that, 4'ish feet for the main length, 2' of hull in the water, now you are at 7' or so for total draft. My swag on the what I see any how.

Re: Estimate the length of this keel

With this keel installed the boat will draw a total of 7'6". The keel itself hanging from the chains looks short to me which is why I ask. Oh well it arrives in two weeks and i will find out.

Grey,

I work in auto factory and agree with the others on the pallets, but there is not one in pic. He is right that those tables should be about 36 inches tall, so it must be a little longer. Hope this helps.
