Re: What do you keep in your Dock Box?

I could probably amass many things to put in a dock box and for that reason I'll never have one again. I had one about thirty years ago, but it tended to collect junk. We are liveaboard cruisers and anything thing that we add that is not on our boat takes a little away from our mobility. The same goes with items on our deck. We make sure nothing needs to be moved or stored for us to be quickly underway. It's not like I need to escape in a hurry, but I just fear the beginings of "growing" to the dock.

I keep all my Oil / Lube change out equipment in my dock box. Messy stuff, nice to keep it out of the boat. I also throw my radiant heater in there when I take off sailing. Also keep my hand pump for my fenders in the dock box. That's about it. Very happy to have a dock box.

Actually, I see on my lease agreement that some slips may negotiate for a price to add a dock box but didn't really think about it.

Re: What do you keep in your Dock Box?

Well.. if I had a dock box and a place to keep it. It would be theft proof, remote and autonomously protected from vandals and other dock creatures. Impossible to remove, climate controlled and with separate area for ice maker and ice cream storage. wine storage and oh yes.. everyday dock necessities. Basically it would be the modern day equivalent to the ark of the covenant!

Tim R - you're not wrong - booze on the boat is good.
You underestimate me, though, sir...
the booze in the box is just in case a) i drink everything on the boat; b) we have unexpected guests from Sailnet forums; c) someone steals my boat.

Each place has their own pllicy. Som,e allow on the land...some allow on the dock itself. Some require all the same kind and size. Check where you stay.

It doesn't sound like you need to build one at all if you are not sure what you need to put in it. I would take the time you would spend to build it and have some cocktails...LOL

Sorry ....only kidding...couldn't resist
