seanappleyard, I may be preaching to the choir, but would like to recommend this website for a Bahamas trip http://www.noonsite.com/Countries/Ba...rc=Formalities . Would love to be considered for joining you, however my wife and I will just be getting off of 45 days on our Beneteau 41' in the BVI's. Best of luck! gts1544

You do realize that that is hurricane season, right? At least most of the time you are talking about being out. (June to November) Seems you would want experienced crew for that time of year.

I think your estimates may be a little low for cost sharing. I usually figure $15/person/day for food on delivery and you are including other costs in your estimate of less than $11/person/day.

Best of luck with your recruiting effort. There are lots of people out there up for adventure. Try to find someone who can cook - there are long stretches of the ICW when you may have to be in the cockpit unless you are fortunate enough to find someone else that can really understand piloting. Do you have an unlimited Towboat/US policy? Best money you can spend.

You will probably find that judgment and personality are more important than skill and experience for what you propose.

Have a good time.

... Considering you are on the ocean when hurricanes begin to appear, I happily disqualify myself... Good luck, but be careful!

10 week sailing trip from Hampton Va to the Bahamas and back. Leaving mid may and returning end of july. A crew of 4 will sail out of Hampton and down the ICW to the Bahamas. We will be doing it on a 35.5 Irwin Citation. Its sail and motor powered, with two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, living/ dining room. We will be stopping off and exploring many places along the way and with the use of a 16ft sib getting into all the interesting inlets the yacht cant reach. We will also get to scuba and snorkel the interesting waters of the Bahamas and catch fresh fish to grill on the bbq in this boat. There is going to be a crew of 4, with 3 spaces currently available. All costs including food, visa's, fuel, mooring charges etc approximate at $750 pp for the 10 weeks. If interested please get in touch.
How much experience do you have sailing across the gulf stream? What are the safety equipment do you have on board? Beware that sharing expense is different from charging the crew. The latter needs you to have a Captain license (at least the six-pack).

It seems that you are not very familiar with the terms, are you looking for experienced crews to teach you? It is unlikely that some one will pay you the money so that they will have the privilege to teach you.

Regardless, good luck and have fun.

Understandable but wouldn't you prefer someone with a bit of knowlage as it is quite the voyage? Did it with my folks as a youth but have sailed since a child. Good luck and hope you find the right crew. Enjoy

Re: 10 week trip Hampton Va to the Bahamas and back mid may-july

Chances of finding someone with boat experience to do this trip is slim, i'm describing it for the college students who probably wouldn't have the first clue about what any of that meant.
