Sounds abit suspicious with no human involved in communications...someone steal and ditch the boat?

Yep, this is what it sounded like to me when I saw the news last night. The only "distress call" was an EPIRB signal and the boat was found sinking on the rocks. No further details given so it's my guess that no one was on board and it just broke its moorings. We've been having big wind throughout the evenings and tidal surge can be a problem in some marinas.

Just saw this. Sad indeed if this was the skipper. Another forum said he started from Alameda and was heading to Hawaii. It's still very strange.

If that unfortunate person was skipper of the boat too bad and regardless of circumstance it would seem unlikely we will learn much about the events leading up to the sinking...peace be..
