At three o'clock this afternoon the sailing vessel 'Lazy life' on passage from the Hamble to CarrickFergus in Northern Ireland sent a mayday relay to Portland Coastguard after sighting a yacht in front of them letting off handheld red flares, which indicated that they had a distress situation.
