Post AROUND JAPAN/UOZU, Toyama Prefecture: 300-year-old fishing festival changes its dates to adjust to the changing times (Asahi.com)

For 300 years, local residents have got together every year to cart the massive sails of the Tatemon Matsuri festival through the streets of Uozu. The festival is believed to have originally been held to pray for bountiful catches from the sea as well as safe sailing for the many fishermen who used to live and work here.
