Registrations for the East Greenwich Yacht Club’s Annual Regatta, taking place on July 16-18, 2010, continue to exceed 2009 and now the event will include the new Schroff Perpetual Trophy for the winner of the largest class. This all new perpetual trophy has been generously donated to the East Greenwich Yacht Club and will be awarded to the winning yacht in the largest class each year.
The Schroff Perpetual Trophy, a Chelsea Mariner Clock, will include the name of the yacht, the skipper and the year of their victory, and reside in the East Greenwich Yacht Club’s trophy case. The winning skipper will also receive a keeper trophy to commemorate their win. “Udo (Schroff) has been a driving force at our club; from campaigning boats, sitting on the Board of Directors and organizing this event from scratch last year, it does not surprise me that he would donate something as prestigious as this trophy”, said Commodore Swanson.
This year’s event continues to build on the success of last year by offering sailors and power boaters of all skill levels a chance to compete on the water using long distance pursuit courses which help to eliminate one of the biggest fears of novice sailors, crowded starting lines. In keeping with the goal of this event as a fun and easy race for everyone, the club’s race committee will assign cruising class boat owners a rating so that they do not have to apply for a PHRF rating and cruising class skippers will even get a rating bonus if they bring along youth sailors from the club’s junior program.
East Greenwich Yacht Club’s Annual Regatta Weekend is scheduled for July 16 – 18, 2010 and the event’s organizing committee expects another sold out regatta this year. Event details, registration form, scratch sheets and more can be found on the event web site at
