Sailing-Piracy fears see Volvo draw up secret race route
by NewsReader 08-18-2011

A sad reflection...

...of the times. The best decision, I'm sure. If Somalia is a failed state, then why are we pussyfooting around it? Why should the CNTF respect the borders and territorial waters of Somalia. After all, NATO seems to be policing half the world already. Yes, I know, budget, budget and lack of resolve to take the pain that would result. I'm British and guess that the Mogadishu Blank Hawk Down scenario still hurts deeply in the US.

Affiliation - I write sailing thrillers. Some involve Red Sea piracy. They are available in formats convenient for sailors. I also live aboard and cruise widely.

Since the British control the BIOT why are the pirates having free reign? Is it that Llyods of London is so successful in paying off the pirates that it is easier for the governments to do nothing. See you guys are the first to raise ransom for your sailors/cruisers. Now I'm worth a million bucks to a Somali pirate......
