The article does not say if the engine was an inboard or outboard but it does say that it was a 15' sailboat. Most likely an outboard engine then.
I've always been suspicious of outboard engines and gas in general but this is the first I have heard of an OB engine causing a fire.
Check the link above that has a great shot of the fire and smoke coming from the boat.
Slow news day? Only hurricane Irene to rattle your thoughts? Wait till the power goes off and you actually have to speak to someone face to face.
