Are these apps a viable alternative to a ipirb/ plb? i have a samsung sll and am signed up with tmobile and everywhere i go- sig sucks!!! Pos co!!!!!! Anyways im going to sail from s. Cal to maui in the next 5 months on a limited budget and am looking for alternatives to an exspensive ipirb. Any experience or knowledge wld be greatly appreciated! Thx

Spot uses a satellite connection. Your iPhone is worthless out of cell range. Check out a PLB or rent an EPIRB from BoatUS
