Niagara 40 PH info wanted

Hi My name is Jason Kettlestrings. I own a small yacht brokerage in LaConner Wa. Fairhaven Yacht Sales. I used to own a 1981 NS30C. Yesterday I listed for sale a Niagara 40 PH that I would like to know more about. Does anyone have any tidbits about these boats? Number built, who designed them, etc. Thanks!

Niagara's were a line of quality cruising boats built in St Cathernes ON near Niagara Falls. The primary owner was George Hinterhoeller who previously was a partner in C& C.

I vaguely remember them building a few like that, no idea of how many but not a lot. Mark Ellis designed a lot of their boats such as the Nonsuch line and I think their fairly well known Niagara 35.

Don't remember any Niagara 40 Pilothouses but they did buid a few pilothouse boats that Ellis designed I think they were called Northeast 40's. I think Cabo Rico now builds them under another name.

The Niagara 40 PH is not of the same line as the Niagara 31/35/42. They are Ontario built, but not, I don't believe, by Hinterhoeller.

There's one listed in Vancouver now too, and I know of one cruising the Caribbean chain. I believe there was a mid 30 foot version produced as well, one of which is in the Victoria area.

Different company I think

i think these boats were built by a company called Niagara Nautic. They built a 36 and a 40 but production numbers were quite low, especially for the 40.

killarney,

I think you're right. I was trying to remember the name (getting harder every year) and it came to me - they were called Nautilus, a 36 and a 40.

There's a Niagara PH 40 on Yachtworld and the ad claims it to be from Hinterhoeler but it does look suspiciously similar to the Nautilus 40.

The Cabo Rico Northeaster is a very different boat. Not bad, great looking interior but a bit clumsy about the pilot house to my mind.

Hello,
I own a Niagara Nautilus 36 which is simply a scaled down version of the 40. These were high quality boats in their time. I have the original instruction manual complete with Polaroids, which is fun to page though. Mine is described as hull #18.
There was clearly a lot of pride in craftsman ship. Most of the original equipment still works great after 30 years. While production numbers must have been REALLY small, the boat was clearly made by folks that made lots of boats. I don't see a lot of the typical production boat mistakes.

Art Epps seems to have been part owner of the company. I have not been able to get in contact with him. I wonder if he is still around.
Henry Adriaanse designed both the 36 and 40.
I'd love to chat with other Niagara 36 and 40 owners.
