Pull Out Galley

hey folks,

So I have the pull out galley - and I Never use it.

I'm considering removing it for better storage (cabin battery)

and less weight (it's Heavy!).

I'd replace it with a cooler that I could secure and use a cabin step.

I have a grill for cooking and have never used the tiny sink,

(except to hold stuff).

Thoughts from other Spirit Owners?

You have to specify whether the galley is aft of the starbrd settee or under the cabin entrance way, cause I'm confused I thought the pull out galley was starbrd & the fixed galley was at the entrance & used as a step. Remember, any substantial weight needs to be as close to the bottom of the boat as possible (battery(s) ) as this takes advantage of having a lower C of G.

Actually the Austin Texas 77-78 version of the s23 had a slide out galley option-which was located under the companionway under the front of the cockpit - and doubled as a step into the cabin. It's a heavy beast.

My 79 S23 has the galley that slides out from under the starboard cockpit seat. I'm putting an alcohol Origo stove in it. When I build another one I'll want to have a sink in it for the overnights I'm going to spend on it. That's next years project.

mine is under the starboard seat also im thinking of getting rid of the whole set up .
going to use a rubbermade tub for a sink , store water in jugs ,it has a propane stove but i dont think i need something that large .

Take a look at the Origo single burners, safe & easy to use. (not pressured at all, & alcohol fumes are lighter than air not like propane that sinks into the bilge & waits for a spark)

GoodOldBoater, I have 2 North American Spirits. A 1977 model without the poptop. It's in really good condition. I also have a 1981 model with a poptop that needs a lot of attention. The 77 model has the galley under the companionway. The 81 does not have a galley. If you're interested in finding a new home for your galley, please let me know. Thanks, John.

Wow 2 S23s!! You DO have your hands full.

I'll let you know If I decide to remove the galley.

Hows does the 81 look/function w/o the galley? Is there a step into the cabin?

I've been trying to get out to the back to take a picture of the Spirit's interior without the galley. Lots of rain and the sun still sets a bit early. I'll keep trying. There is quasi step ladder that connects to the bottom of the companion way and ends on the cabin sole. It reminds me of a boarding ladder. Aluminum tubes with plastic steps. There are 4 pieces of teak screwed to the floor under the ladder. They are to help to keep the ice chest from sliding around. The cabin does look a lot bigger without the galley.
