Outboard Mounting Board

I have a Honda 7.5 (1984 O'Day 222) with an oak mounting board and it has a large crack.
Options are making another or using West Marine's:
Replacement mounting board 9-1/2" x 10-3/4" x 2"
GARELICK model# 488049 $49.99 USD.

Has anyone used the GARELICK mounting board in a retro fit?

Out board Mounting Board

I just this weekend got my O'Day 192 out of storage and started to prepare for the Minnesota summer. Over winter I bought the Garlick mounting board from some one on one of these sites for half of West Marine's price. There were a couple of sets of holes for the bolts and it was a simple and straight forward replacement. There was even a spot for the spring that helps push the handle out when you try to lift the motor. One of the best buys I have made for my boat. However, I have not used it yet. I appears to be a great improvement.

My wooden board broke when I was trying to fight 3 foot waves to get out of a small harbor into a large lake. I had to try to hang onto a running 5hp motor, kill the engine. throw it on board and then fend off the rocks that were trying to beat my little boat to hell. I would recommend replacement before breakage.

outboard on O'Day 192

Just out of curiosity what is the weight of your outboard on your 192? I am thinking of replacing my 4 hp 2-stroke motor which weighs about 30 lbs with a 4 stroke. I am a little hesitant about buying a 4 hp 4 stroke because they all weigh about 50-60 lbs. OTOH I am concerned that a 2 hp 4 stroke, though about 30 lbs, will have enough power for the 192. The dealers claim that the 4 stroke 2 hp is at the prop and is probably the same power at the prop as my 4 stroke.

Re: Outboard Mounting Board

I replaced my board last fall with a GARELICK on my 1979 O'Day 25. I used the bigger board (don't remember model no.) as I have a Honda 10hp. The motor weighs about 95 lbs. The board was extremely easy to install and so far has performed nicely, ie: the motor hasn't fallen off.
