Headsail Roller Furling

I have purchased a O25 w/ roller furling jib. My second O25, but
first furling gear. I believe it is an older CDI unit. It has an
internal halyard in the luff that is very long when the sail is
raised. Just above the drum is a cleat port & starboard on the
furler, and at the base of furler there is an opening that allows a
line to feed through. I assume the tack of the sail (which is fitted
w/2 small lines) ties at the base and that the halyard somehow is
attached to one or both of the jamcleats abouve the furler, but below
the luff. There is a lot of extra halyard at this point with the jib
raised, I am not sure what do with it? Any input on the arrangements
I described?
Thanks.
