removing O'day 32' headliner

My new (to me) O'Day 32' center-cockpit sloop has had water leaking in around the mast for a while. There is a solid headliner that is basically the same size as the saloon that I want to drop to Spartite around the mast, but I can't see any way to drop the liner because of its size. Any suggestions?

I want to Spartite my mast, and there is a solid headlinerthe same size as the saloon. I can't see a way to drop the headliner because of its size, so I'm thinking of cutting an an access port in the headliner to get a good look at the partners to check for rot, and to repair any water damage, then Spartite the mast. Does anyone here have any opinions as to whether this idea is ok, or a really big mistake? TIA
