Hello! I recently purchased a 1981 22ft and it has the Neil Pryde mainsail. Unfortunately it didn't have the battens. There are three pockets for what measures to be two 24"s and a 30". Would any of you be able to measure the width for me? And are they tapered?
Just buy some off-the shelf ones from Defender, West Marine, etc. and cut to length. You can use either tapered (better) or non-tapered. Width of about 1 1/4" is probably what was used.
Sailrite has a good selection of battens and all that you need on a 22' is 5/8" wide tapered battens. cost about $10 to 15. thin end goes toward the mast. buy some batten caps to protect the sail. batten should bend to match the curve of the sail. to stiff a batten will be hard on the sail and beat the cloth to death http://www.sailrite.com/Batten-Tapered-5-8-Wide-24?gclid=COGo6r7xhM0CFU1gfgodSwYL_Q
Thanks so much to both of you for the quick response!
