Cool Any O-302 Owners or Model Knowledge?

All,

Begining to re-join the O'Day group -- have been looking for a replacement for my O-28 "EMERALD" lost in New Orleans to "Katrina" last year. One of the candidates is an O-302 with wing keel and Yanmar 2GM20 (I think I got the number right). Does anyone in the O'Day group have any sailing experience or knowledge about the performance of the O-302's? The beam is 3" less than the O-28 with a bit more length and a bit more freeboard (I think -- from a quick look only) -- and, has a 3' 11" shoal "wing type" keel. The latter would be great for the skinny water in the Gulf coastal area -- Just not sure about performance. The O-28 was a fairly "stiff" boat. Might the O-302 be more "tinder" by comparison?

Any input will be more than welcome -- trying to make a decision to purchase now -- or look for a different O'Day.

Don

Hey Don welcome !
I bought a oday 30 this summer and nearby my boat was a 302 and it was downright beautiful! I've heard that the 30 and 302 are about the same . but seems to me the 30 has more beam. I found this information for you. hope this helps.

Here is a link to some owner reviews.

We recently bought a 322 as our first boat sailing on the Chesapeake and are very happy with it.

Thanks for the link. Mucho appreciated.

I have not gotten any replies with any real negatives regarding the O-302 / O-323 family. I still need to look closer at the crasing mentioned in an earlier post . . . But, the boat looks good enough for me to make an offer on -- which I will do right away.

I'm looking forward to being less of a "virtual" sailor, and maybe getting some real coastal water under me!

Again, thanks for the assist!

Don
