Hi, just purchased my '81 22 foot last year and wonder what the difference between these two blocks is. One furthest aft is on a track and seems to be mainly for genoa. But the smaller one deck mounted has me confused.
On the O'Day 22 ......
The block on the track is the fairlead when using a genoa ... the larger jib what has its clew far aft of the mast.
The small 'stand up' block is the fairlead when using a small (100%, etc.) jib.
You raise of lower the small jib up or down along the forestay to get the correct 'fairlead' angle to this 'small' block.
If you have a symmetrical spinnaker, you can use the small block to help hold the spinnaker's tack/pole 'down' ... when using TWO lines to each 'corner' of the spinnaker.
