Steping Mast On Deck

37' O-day. My Back Stay Snaped And The Mast Broke 6" Below Deck, Im Going To Restep The Mast On Deck. Has This Happened To Any One Out There ? My Rigger Says No Problem, I Have Mixed Feelings My Self. Would Love Any Info. Thanks And Aloha,

I"ve thought about it

I get so tired of the mast boot leaking. Seems to me the support from the keel to the cabin roof should be something nice like teak.

One thing to consider is the fact that a keel stepped mast is stiffer and stronger then a deck stepped mast of the same dimension. If you deck step the mast will it be strong enough? Also, and I am sure you thought of this but you need a compression post to replace the missing section under the deck. You might be better of to splice the mast and put a sleeve in it.
