O'day Tempest 23'

Hi,

I was hoping someone could tell me which chain plate location the mid-mast shroud and top shroud (runs through the spreaders) should be connected to?

There is only one chainplate on each side of the vessel, however the chainplate has 2 holes in it for the two shrouds. I think right now we have them set up with the top shroud to the forward hole in the chain plate.

Or does it not really matter?

Thanks

Smile Rigging question

The upper goes to the forward hole. The aft lower goes to the aft hole. Most of the Tempests were later equipped with a jackstay which went from the forward side of the mast near the spreaders to the forward end of the cabin trunk. They did this because in going to weather in a bit of a swell the mast would start to buck forward & back and break at the spreaders. Most of the tempests in our club retro fitted the boats with double lowers. We installed chainplates forward and aft of the current chainplate by about 12-16 inches. This solved the problem and nobody lost a mast since. I have had that on my boat since 1968.
