Oday 39 and 40 owners

I'm John on board the Oday 40 Marylee. This is our third year living aboard our boat.

I'm trying to compile a list of 39's and 40's with serial numbers. I guess I'm just curious about the number of these models still out there.

I know a few of you and I've met quite a few so far in our travels. If you would like to send me info on your 40 or 39 I would really appreciate it.

I have recently sold my O'Day 39 "MORPHEUS" (Hull #17).

We have O Day 39 number 81 1984 that we bought March 2006. Now named Dror, was Sparrow.

Great Boat, have spent 4 years unmuddling it.

Numerous projects including large holding tank, solar panels, refrigeration, new water heater, new cushions, track on mast for spinnaker pole, new standing and running rigging, lifelines, windlass and more.

Also stripped the bottom and epoxy coated last spring.

Thanks for all your responses. So far I have been able to account for 13 O39's and 14 O40's. I have personally met 7 of these owners and spent time on their boats.

So far I have hulls #17 thru 106 in the 39's and 131 thru 193 in the 40's. I am guessing that there was approximately 200 of our style boats made.

For all the doubters of the Oday line that may stumble across this post I would like to add that my wife and I have put over 15,000 miles behind us in the past three years. We have sailed the Great Lakes, the East Coast from the Keys to Martha's Vineyard and made two trips to the Bahamas. We are landlocked for a year but will set out for the Caribbean in 2012.

How would you guys compare the build quality of the 39 with a Hunter or Bene? Is it a composite hull below the waterline?

O'Day seems to always get lost in the brand discussions, but I've seen some favorable comments about them from more racer-oriented sailors.

IIRC the boats talked about are Jeanneau's brought over by O'Day or built over here in the states, but a Jeanneau Sunn Fizz design. One can find some more info at www.jeanneau-owners.com too!
