O'Day 30 Swing Keel Rigging

Hello,

The swing keel on my O'Day 30 simply has a line coming up out of the cabin roof, through a cheek block and then directly to the cockpit. The line is cleated off at the top of the cabin near the companion way. This arrangement provides no mechanical advantage of pulleys and blocks and I must pull with an enormous amount of force to retract the keel (both feet on cabin). Does anyone have a diagram they could send me of how this is supposed to be rigged or could you describe? Any help is appreciated before I break my neck or back slipping at some point.

rusty contact Rudy of D&R marine.com he was the Oday parts manager and more back in the day.

The line from the centerboard ends in a shackle attached to the dead end of a block. A line anchored on the deck loops through the block, back to a cleat next to the anchor point, making for a 2/1 purchase.

wescarroll,

Thanks. This makes sense and will rig accordingly. Called Rudy at D&R and he indicated that it should not require such effort to lift. The swing keel weighs about 300 lbs but due to position should not be so difficult to lift.

wescarroll,

I finally added the block and rigged as you suggested and it works perfect.

Thanks
