g10 ordered...thanks. Are there any pockets in the hull that can be drilled to let water out? Our 31 "Just Sayin" has been in 4 years since her last bottom. We have the bottom done every 90 days by a diver and zincs changed as needed. The better half of mine just received her Captains license and we plan to do some sunset charters this summer. It is a trip plus to pull and want to get as much done as needs to be. Thanks to all for your input.

Re: Pulling our 31

UPDATE: Pulled " Just Sailin" Monday. Found the strut to be trash. When we pulled the prop shaft the sturt literally fell out. Not good. New one ordered from Rudy at D & R. Good news - Rudy was very helpful and knowedgeable. Bad news... Stut will take about 3 weeks. Found lots of blisters and evidence of previous blister job. Bad news... Lots of blisters. Previous job... not done well, lots of big gouges ( SP?? sorry ) filled with ???? Can hardly lift my arms from tooooo many hours on the grinder. Good news... Love playin with the boat. At first glance fuel tank looks OK, replaced in 2001. Thru Hulls look bad... replacing all. Taking lots of pictures. Any suggestions appreciated.

Post lots of pictures (get a photobucket account and post 'em there, link to them here).

You will get LOTS of advice; some good, some not worth what you pay for it.

Take your time, spend some money and DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

The cutlass may be toast if the strut is loose. If it is, you may want to drop the rudder, and check for moisture intrusion while you are at it. I have seen this with other O'days and found water in the rudder on my O'D 35.

Through hulls are relatively easy... Get some G10 from Mc Master-Carr for backing plates, then go here.
Awesome post! thanks as i'm in the process of replacing an old plastic/marelon thru hull and appreciate all the pics and info.

Re: Pulling our 31

May 14th 2012 3:30 we FINALLY splashed JUST SAILIN!!!!! Almost 5 weeks in the yard. What we did: Ground off about 6 layers of bottom paint, repaired the bottom, put on 4 coats of 2000E, 2 coats of bottom paint. Replaced all thru hulls, seacocks and hoses. painted all the bilges and storage area. Removed water tank and refited. Replaced strut, shaft, connector and shaft log. Compounded sides, cleaner poilish and a coat of wax. All new lettering, added 2 gold stripes........... WHEW....... What an adventure. Have pictures uplaoding to photo bucket and as soon as I can figure out share them will post a link. Have many stories to share on the process.
