I check in everyday, if only to be reminded that others too are trapped in an office hoping the wind picks up, and work winds down. I also enjoy the friendly banter about rum, books, movies and sailing.

Also, how many people think PBooty is hot or not?
WHY DO YOU THINK IT'S CALLED "FIGHT CLUB"

A safe first post from frank31. Welcome to Surfesq's sailing asylum frank. You think your keel is safe from the occasional soft grounding . . . but watch out for those sharp reefs, they can come out of nowhere.

BEANS - I think Surfesq knows what his thread is called, he created the beast.

Come on Beans....you know you enjoy it!
Why is it called Fight Club? I am glad someone finally asked that question.
I am a huge fan of Chuck Palanhuik's work. I don't know if that is too obscure a reference for this site. But, he is the author of Fight Club as well as several other must reads. So the idea of the thread is not to fight but rather to explore sailing and adventure at a higher level and have a few laughs.

Keep Checking In.....

Good and Bad...Its fun to hear from everyone who reads this thread. Even the old guys likes PBzeer should check in.....

So why Fight Club? Ever been through a divorce or reach a point in your life when you realize its all just stuff?

"It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything."
Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club

You see that is the spirit of sailing that attracts us...The idea of putting everything in storage...and then selling everything in storage...restoring your boat until it can safely carry you like a modern vagabond across the Ocean. Leaving everything material behind and discovering what nature will provide. Living the life that we read about...

I feel the urge that caused Columbus to leave Spain or Magellan or Slocum or anyone for that matter who knew that the water was their home.....

Do you have the courage to find what is out there? Or are you tied to your home port by the yellow three pronged umbilical that allows your AC to keep you cool?

Hey Surfesq

I joined sailnet to get serious advice on boats and things nautical.
I got everything I set out to get and it is ongoing. Thanks to everyone...
THEN, just when I was getting settled in, along came FIGHT CLUB...
I wouldn't miss it it for the world..As we say in OZ."S%$#&, it's bloody bonza mate".
I check in every day to see if you have become a casuality or to see if P.Booty has a date from you.
Keep it up mate..
Jim.

I came to the point where I decided that the stuff really wasn't important anymore a while back, then I went and got out of the rat race. Next, I sold my house and bought a boat. Soon, I'll hope to be setting off to see what is past the sunrise. I plan on turning 40 when I am at sea....

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

That's right.
What if life is only about what you see, feel, smell, taste? What if one measure of a good life is as simple as your ability to appreciate beauty or to get why we are here?
The setbacks, like the ones which I know you have experienced SD force us to take stock of who and what we are. I for one look forward to wishing you happy 40th somewhere in the World.
