I did everything you said except take the deck plate cap off. I was amazed at how it went from rectangular to perfectly round after I'd pumped sludge into for 3 hours. It has an interesting "booonnnngggggggg" when I thump it now. So I think it's inflated enough. I thought I'd let it heat up for a few days before I check the deck plate.

Again - thanks for the valuable help. I keep telling everyone Sailnet is where you get the very best sailing advice from EXPERIENCED salts. Had I followed those stupid instructions that came with the tank I bet the stupid thing would have still been rectangular. Idiots

Next...the deck plate and a smile!

PS - Caleb, I gotta know...is this REALLY the moral of your story of crapping like a duck?
I forgot to add that you need to be smoking a cigarette before popping that cap. Let me know before you do so I can go outside and look south.

Windy, the answer to being avoided by pirates is to have kids. Two boys are especially helpful. When we pull into an anchorage, everyone naturally pulls out. Blairing Thomas the Train Engine typically does the trick for the last few stragglers. You think any pirate would approach us!?? Think again.

Hey if they see you have a bunch of kids they know you're broke and don't have anything worth stealing anyway.

Hey CD,
I just saw a mushroom cloud over my eastern horizon. I guess smacker listened and took up smoking, whilst following your other advice. Dont worry - a little heat wont hurt him and utterly self inflicted.

As to my saint status - lets not go there. I dont even own that boat anymore.

I agree about cruising with kids and Thomas the tank engine. As long as you are the Fat Controller - its all gonna work. However, it can attract other kids and before long, you are carefully stepping over articles on a 35' day care centre, bristling with dinghy's, dishing out red cordial.

This is the only safe thread to lurk on, as there are no 'bags of wind' loitering. Well, maybe a few.

Earlier this summer I was on a 2 night/2 day trip on the Chessy with 3 old high school sailing friends. One of us brought along a kayak which we lashed to the starboard side deck for our trip across the bouncy open waters of the Chessy under a full moon; we left the dock around 10 pm on a Friday and anchored on the eastern shore around 5 am, having sailed all night by moonlight, navigating by gps lat/lon and charts. The next morning we crossed back over to our home port river and anchored again for the night.
I have spent other overnights on this boat and even worked on the head applying a service kit for it. On these occasions all of us were able to wait until we got back to the home marina to use the facilities; can you say: "anal retentive"? But this 2 night overnight trip was a bit longer but the stigma of being the one who put chit in the head still remained; can you say: "macho"? So by Sunday morning each of the other fellows took the kayak and paddled to woodsy shoreline to take care of their business. I never paddled to shore as when nature called and I knew I could not wait till we got back to the marina, much less paddle ashore, I just jumped into the water and swam around the boat. Once back aboard my anxiety was relieved and I enjoyed watching my friends and other people on their boats swimming in the water. Needless to say I did not mention my little secret to my friends until well after that trip.
All this to say: You are not a sailor if you can't take a crap in the water while swimming. I doubt that the EPA or DNR will be able to pin it on you, if they can find the evidence.
That said, if you want your ladies and kids to join you then you will have a working head and holding tank and you will use it to set an example. The best way to get young kids to wear a life preserver is to wear one yourself.
mmmh, mmmh, mmmh. that's quite a yarn there, matey. hope everything's back to normal.....

you don't sail if you can't dodge the brown buoys....

Now Caleb & Sneade.
I am quite tired of hearing sneade talk about your crap! Do you guys have any other claims to fame or is organic waste a specialty. Are you just (ecologically) unsound?

Can I sum it up.
'you dont sail if'..... you are chained to a computer, pulling your chain, bragging about what memory has embelished and no-one can dispute.

Now, in a few days I am setting off on an epic adventure, fraught with danger. [Hard stand to mooring] I could tell some stories of gear failure. brain failure. I will keep you guys posted. Actually the distances involved are probably bigger than the pond that smacker and sneade sail across. [maybe a few hundred metres]

talk to you later guys.

St - chin up old boy. From stands to mooring always seems like an easy jaunt. But, as you well know, it can be fraught with danger.

PS - At least I don't live on an island.

good luck and god speed on your journey, anna. how long ya think you'll be gone? that should take at least a six pack to complete a voyage of that magnitude....

yeah, i think you're right. i'm gettin' a little brain stuffy. the lake has been becalmed for the past week, and i'm gettin' somewhat beside myself......

there's a chance of wind sunday. think i'll try to sail admiraless and wet a rail....

ever think about changing your handle? i'm like smack, it does sound a little chickey....

i couldn't bring myself to be called "lil' audrey" on this forum....

Gooday sneade.
Thanks for the advice. Is your real name Audrey. Jeez how mean were your parents.

With respect to the time I will need, my starter motor is playing up - I may have to sail out of the sling and across to the pen. Yeah - as if.

Here in Oz, we are tough and measure distances in slabs of beer, not girly 6 packs. However,I think all my neighbours will be drinking to calm their nerves when I motor past (near) them.

Thanks Smacker, great to hear from you. Hope the smacktets and Frau SMack are all treating you kindly.

Sneadey, you will suffer the wrath of the gods if you sail without someone to tell you what you should do. Everything will go wrong. Its huge bad luck, only fixable by a topless (female) crew. This is your challenge ....

The boat was called St. Anna because the original owner was a doctor and in the soloman islands, he used to run beachside clinics. His wifes name was Anna and she was the nurse. When the boat came into view, to anchor off a village, the locals would run down and call Saint Anna ( after the wife, not the poor doctor who did the physician/surgeon stuff) Therefore they renamed the boat St. Anna.

On the radio, everyone used to mistake me for santana - which of course is easy to do - I cant sing either.

Would I be too stupid to ask for suggestions for a new callsign (name for sneade)
