I find myself in a position where I find myself agreeing, in part, with both Windy and Smacky.
I have really cut back on my off topic contributions lately. Actually, I don't participate in off topic at all on AS. I don't like the idea of there being a separate area that isn't visible to everyone. And frankly, I don't like having to log in to see all the posts. At first it seemed to make some sense, but I have since come to a different opinion.

Traffic has fallen off here and it has fallen off on AS. I don't know about SA or any others, but I bet they're down too. There are probably many different reasons for this, but attributing it to the arrival or departure of certain contributors is, in my opinion, a little egotistical. There are bigger issues involved.

Oh, and as to asking questions that may have been asked and answered a thousand times. It only gets old if the answers come from the same people every time. Sometimes the same question gets answered in a different way if someone else answers it. If someone gets tired of answering the same question over and over, why don't they just leave it for someone who hasn't had a chance to answer it before.
I like Sailing Dog, but really. The guy felt the need to answer every single thing that was posted for awhile. And then he got to the point of getting pushed out of shape at the way the question was asked or if there weren't pictures, or if the wrong terminology was used. He and others would literally jump on someone's very first (and sadly often their last) post. And it wasn't just him.
