OK, time for a post from the peanut gallery. I wouldn't say I've been lurking in the background, I'd say I've in the audience with a front row seat (since the day this thread started) to some pretty funny and interesting thoughts on sailing and other matters. Not to mention observing some sparring that Ali and Frazier would be proud of.

I couldn't contain myself anymore, I had a great day of sailing on Saturday. Steady 25kt winds in Nantucket Sound. Yes, I was reefed. I have a Pearson P-35 with a 10 foot beam. She's a heavy air boat, but it doesn't take much to get her rail in the water. Orignially I was going to take my wife to Nantucket for an overnighter, but knew she would not be happy with the weather. I'm trying to get her to enjoy sailing and am trying to avoid any bad experiences until I get her hooked. With all the heavy air on the Sound and all the time commitments with kids, work and friends, it's been a slow process.

So instead I settled for a great daysail with my 11 year old daughter. I usually bring four beers with me. It's a great sailing day when I don't consider it prudent to open one until I'm back at the mooring. I just had to tell someone who gets it! We even saw our Senator Ted Kennedy on his Concordia 50. I am not a fan of his politics, but he is a sailor. He needs a crew because he can't be very nimble, but he was out there in 25 kt winds without any reefs! And his boat is a classic and we know he's not averse to having a drink or two. I see his boat on the Sound quite often and he's usually at the wheel. I think he qualifies as a sailor, although I should go back and re-check the list to make sure.

And being a Cape Codder I can't help but be a life long Red Sox fan. Tough loss yesterday. Boats and Red Sox on the radio is as New England as it gets.

Almost forgot, I've been told you don't want to power wash teck too often because the soft grain will wash away leaving an uneven ridged surface of the hard grain. I suppose if you're just going to do it once then seal with varnish you're probably OK.

Welcome to the thread...I never beat down people who something relevant to add. If you notice I have only taken shots at people who came to the thread to complain.

"You've come to wrong shop for anarchy Brother." Capt. Aubrey.

Its hard for me to cheer for the Sox being from DC. I had to tolerate the O's growing up so I have to cheer for them. Plus you gor rid of my favorite player: Nomar.

Sounds like an awesome day up there for a sail. As I have said many times you guys in New England live in the Mecca of Sailing. (Outside of Cowles of course).

As for Teddy, let's think this through...Is he a sailor because he drinks or a sailor because he is a murderer and got away with it? We need to discuss that issue further!

Teak: Yes...I was really careful not to hit too hard or too close with the wand for just that reason. But I am telling you it did wonders to the teak that my previous owner ignored for at least ten years.

Just returned from our 8 day cruise. Had a great time, who wouldn't; 8 days on the water with no ties to land. No worries exept to decide on where to go next. I know, nobody cares, or could care less. Just thought I would share with all you "Fight Club Members."

tjk1 - to the contrary - one of the benefits of the fight club is to live vicariously through others sailing exploits. When I have to be at work I love hearing others sailing/cruising stories/fun. Tell us a bit more about your 8 day tour. I especially like stories of Lake Michigan being a native Michigander who spent his college years in your neck of the woods.

Sailed or motor sailed approx. 250 nautical miles around Southern Lake Michigan. Winds were light most of the trip. Longest leg was 104 miles; Chicago to White Lake. Dogged a couple of storms and motor sailed through the Mackinaw race fleet. The whole family was on board; Wife and two teenage daughters. I'll post some pic's in the gallery. Thanks.

I have heard that you can get some pretty dramatic storms up there on the big lake. I hope you had a chance to mix in some good food after those long motor legs!

If you ever get the chance to get to northern Lake Michigan it is absolutely beautiful - Leeland, Charlevoix, Traverse City, Manitou Island(s), Beaver Island - absolutely fantastic - and yes Esq some pretty dicey storms - October Sailing on LM is outstanding. Do you Hoosiers call LM "The Big Lake"?

Is that what the Hooziers call it? I am a Marylander.....I would love to get up there and sail. Maybe we should organize a Fight Club World Wide Boat Exchange....It could work you give your boat for a week in exchange for a week on someone elses boat.
