OK, time for a post from the peanut gallery. I wouldn't say I've been lurking in the background, I'd say I've in the audience with a front row seat (since the day this thread started) to some pretty funny and interesting thoughts on sailing and other matters. Not to mention observing some sparring that Ali and Frazier would be proud of.
I couldn't contain myself anymore, I had a great day of sailing on Saturday. Steady 25kt winds in Nantucket Sound. Yes, I was reefed. I have a Pearson P-35 with a 10 foot beam. She's a heavy air boat, but it doesn't take much to get her rail in the water. Orignially I was going to take my wife to Nantucket for an overnighter, but knew she would not be happy with the weather. I'm trying to get her to enjoy sailing and am trying to avoid any bad experiences until I get her hooked. With all the heavy air on the Sound and all the time commitments with kids, work and friends, it's been a slow process.
So instead I settled for a great daysail with my 11 year old daughter. I usually bring four beers with me. It's a great sailing day when I don't consider it prudent to open one until I'm back at the mooring. I just had to tell someone who gets it! We even saw our Senator Ted Kennedy on his Concordia 50. I am not a fan of his politics, but he is a sailor. He needs a crew because he can't be very nimble, but he was out there in 25 kt winds without any reefs! And his boat is a classic and we know he's not averse to having a drink or two. I see his boat on the Sound quite often and he's usually at the wheel. I think he qualifies as a sailor, although I should go back and re-check the list to make sure.
And being a Cape Codder I can't help but be a life long Red Sox fan. Tough loss yesterday. Boats and Red Sox on the radio is as New England as it gets.
