Charlie? Bad hair day? Go sailing you need to relax! lol. I haven't heard from you in a while. How is everthing?
I don't think any of the regulars, myself included, think this is anything but an occupier of time during the work day.
Denis: There are a bunch of guys on this thread from your neck of the woods. You guys should hook up. I might just have to pop up that way for a few Dark and Stormys!
Hey, I posted a few pictures of my wreck in the gallery. I am heading down tonight to do little more sanding. I plan to start varnishing this week.

Can a CT Yankee from down the road be a member of the Nantucket Sound Fight Club? I would even be honored with an Associate membership! I am a bit perplexed by Chuck's grumpiness - just go sailing and enjoy yourself. Where can I find these alleged photos?

Banshee: Anybody who's not so serious about themselves that they can't get a chuckle out this thread is welcome in the Nantucket branch. Associate memberships will be reserved for those who either don't sail or don't drink. Gee, I guess I left an openning for PB, I may have to reconsider this rule. Just kidding, PB).

Just out of curiousity, anybody on the list sail the Figawi regatta on a regular basis? (For those out of the area, its an annual Hyannis to Nantucket regatta over Memorial Day weekend. The regatta usually gets around 200 boats and takes over the Nantucket Boat Basin. It's a great event anytime about 1,000 sailors take over a town. If it wasn't for all the money the merchants make off this, they'd never let this regatta near Nantucket.

is the regatta named after that famed Indian (Native American) Troop from the F-Troop sitcom - God I hope so - the answer is no I do not sail that race.

There's boats at Figawi?
I have been there but never even been close to a boat. That has become more of a kick off for summer in New England than strictly a regatta. I'd be willing to bet there are at least 100,000 people (many, many fine young ladies I might add) that go to Nantucket for that weekend and none of them ever lay an eye on a boot. I haven't been in 3 years though, not since the little honey put her foot down on the "guys trips" and my 2 yo came along. Ah the glory days. But I'm happier now...right?

It'd be great to see it from the perspective of the boat too...soon enough!

Surf,
Just was checking out your photo's in the gallery.
I admire your determination. ( I mean that completly).
It will be well worth it when you finally finish, can't wait to see those pictures. Should only take a year or two or three.
When is your anticipated completion and please give us a detailed list of your refit. It looks major.

just checked out the pictures as well - great project esq - lots of character in that boat -

tjk1 - just about fell over when I saw your picture of Big Red - I sailed past Big Red every weekend for the first 20 of my life - I love that lighthouse! I have a post card of it on my refrigerator.

I Its actually not as major as it appears. The guy that I bought the boat from works in the boatyard where the boat is stored. So he was very meticulous about fixing the things on this particular boat that are dirty and expensive. For example, he replaced the fuel tank, installed all new fuel lines and a new holding tank and plumbing system. The inside is in perfect shape because they lived aboard. The engine is so clean its almost comical.
The deck and hull just need varnish and paint. He just hated doing the brightwork. He also bought new masts for the boat so I will have a rigger step them for me.

I am pretty meticulous about things like keeping spread sheets on costs, materials, brands, etc. You may have seen my sail comparison that I published some time ago. I will post the spread sheet with materials and costs as I go along.

So maybe I am being overly ambitious but I am planning on launching sometime in September. I will keep you posted.
