Thats right. Two summers ago, I was sailing on my Hunter when one the big boys sailed right buy us. We thought we were honking at 8 knots. It went by us like we were standing still. We waved as they roared by within 10 feet. Did they wave back? Hell no, way to cool for that. We laughed because we felt like such dorks for waving! But what a memorable site.

I took this shot of Courageous a few days ago, when winds were so light, they postphoned the regatta.

Nice shot, can you imagine going that fast.

What about the big cat's that scream along at over 30knots.
Now what would that be like?
Please please please don't break apart.

We usually get two or three 12 meters that participate in the Figawi. Last year we had Columbia and American Eagle. 3 or 4 years ago Casseiopia was de-masted just after the start on on heavy wind day. It was a sad sight, fortunately and amazingly no was hurt.

Columbia is always docked directly across from my slip. I can't tell you how often I just sit and gaze at her lines. Of course at Figawi those lines start to blur pretty quickly for some reason.

Serious need for speed - West Coast Style. SC52 City Lights returning from Lightship I this past March in San Francisco (Mile Rock in background). We corrected out 23 minutes ahead of them in a 36' light displacement boat. Our boat hit 28 kts (I kid you not!) several times on the run back into the Bay. Surfing that stuff was akin to nonstop mogul skiing.

Wow! George that is awesome! I have sailed in SF Bay and it is incredible. But nothing quite like that. 28 knots is just sick!
