"4. If you reef your sail in 15 knots of wind because you don't like to heel....You don't sail.

You are a sailor if:
3. You like to see your rail wet."

HA! I like to (ok at least try to) sail competently and efficiently. Sure, sometimes I might get lazy or get overpowered by a puff, or be short-handed or have a sail that doesn't reef. And maybe sometimes it's a bit hypnotic or fun to dip the rail. But, it could also be the case that someone who fails to reef or flatten the boat is an inexperienced sailor who doesn't know how to trim for efficiency, or was too lazy or un-forehanded to reef or was too broke or cheap-ass to buy new sails when the old ones blew out or just doesn't have a feel for how to make the boat happy or has a lazy man's boat without sail controls or couldn't be bothered to tell the rest of the crew to stow their dark and stormies and get their big asses on the windward rail where it could do some good.

Ah that felt good.

Could be.

Alternatively, it could be that one actually doesn't know how to balance the boat well enough to keep the rail in the water for a while...just for fun. That actually takes some skill...and competence.

True -- or it could be that the skipper has the rail in the water so someone on the other side of the boat can jump off the canting keel as part of filming a commercial for the boat's sponsor.
