My wish for the new year, one more sail

Once up on a time a child was born. She was the pride of her Father. As she grew, she and her Father did many things together. She loved the water like an fish. Sailing and swimming were the fare for the summers. But little girls don't stay little.

At the age of 20 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The sixth youngest in the US at that time. She had to leave college to receive her health care. Surgery and two rounds of chemo and radiation. She never loss her smile or her zest for life. She never complained about the pain. Her Father found strength in her.

Two years have passed.

She was at an dance rehearsal 6 weeks ago as she is an professional dancer. She fell during the practice and landed on her tail bone. Nothing that any other dancer has not done. She kept rehearing and preforming ignoring the pain that did not seam to get better. She awoke one morning last week and had trouble walking. Doctor appointments were made and scans were ordered. The cancer is now in her spine. She starts radiation today. The outlook is not encouraging.

I am so proud of my daughter. Over the last two years she has shown us how to live. She will face this with courage beyond her years.

The boat is on the hard. The boat won't hit the water until May. All I wish for the New Year is to sail with my Daughter again.

Can't start to imagine how you must feel, but try to be strong. Hope you'll get many more sailing days together.

Bubb,
I sincerely hope that you and your daughter will have many great sails together. I'm sure she values you being there for her more than anything.
Best Regards,
John

I've got a 15 and 19 yr old daughter. My maternal grandmother died at 45 from cancer, type unknown in 55, mom died in 92 from breast cancer at 49. Like others, I saw this post, and tears came to my eyes. as my 19 yr old look like pics of my grand mother and mom. Will a third, well may be fourth get hit? Younger sister is 43, so far no signs etc that is is hereditary. Then again.......

In the end, all I can hope, is you get that sail, even it means chartering, beg, borrow or steal a boat for that hour!

Bubb - incredibly sad story, your daughter is extremely brave. I want to say I know what you are going through, my wife is in the late stages of breast cancer treatment (so far successful) but I realize that our trials pale compared to yours.

We have a new 1 month old granddaughter now, and my first thought was of her as I read your story....

The medical treatments today are nothing short of amazing and we hope your daughter pulls through. Still, to see a child suffer so is simply unfair and just not right.

Nothing I can say will help at this moment, just know that my thoughts and prayers are with you in this, your familys time of need.

The will of God will not not lead you where the grace of God cannot keep you.
