ebs,
In democracies only crises get dealt with and so, if you've a concern you wish to prioritize, you must cast it in the light of crisis. It doesn't matter if the concern is GW, health care, defense spending, or drunk driving.

Within the US we have an impending problem with social security and we've known about it's arrival for something like thirty years. We haven't done much of anything about it for the simple reason that no one has been able to portray it as a crisis. Once that happens then action will take place. It might be wholly incorrect action but in a "crisis" any action is perceived to be better than inaction. We'll ignore the fact that most crises could have been avoided by early action prior to actual crisis status; that'd make too much sense but would require some type of consensus.

I personally think that the seriously large number of people who earn their living within the environmental fields has contributed to the hysteria. The old saying, follow the money, is almost always applicable. And our politicians love an issue that cannot be argued with that comes tailor made with a large constituency. After all, who is in favor of killing the planet? Have we stopped beating our wives yet? (g)

One of my red flags is the immediacy of action required. You'll have noted that the GW alarmists have met every argument stating that the data is inconclusive at best with the claim that we cannot wait for more conclusive data to be collected. That gets me thinking that somebody is selling me something I might really not want to buy without more information.

I'll be interested to hear the response you get from your MP.

SA, I have sent an email to my MP. Prior to the Canadian election I sent links posted earlier in this thread. The usual response is an acknowledgement of correspondence first. Then some time later I will receive a formal response to my queerie. MPs are obligated to respond but there is no time limit; however, as governments a being pressured by the "warmers" for immediate action I think I will probably hear something sooner than later.
Any response I get, I will post.

Oops, perhaps things are as clear cut as they keep trying to make us believe.

I heard on the radio today the They were discussing a bill in the House Of Commons in London about to be implemented on Global Warming. At the same time there was a snow storm going on outside that is the earliest recorded in October since 1920.

What is it Bill Ingvill Say's? Oh Yea "here's your sign".

Actually, the way I read that article, it kind of fit in with a previous article about the time lag between warming and the increase of C02. That is, as the earth warms, it fizzes. So whether global warming is man made or not, as it warms the earth is fizzing more, giving off more methane and CO2. Is that the way the rest of you read it?

The question I have about the whole thing, is whether the earth is warming or cooling, I don't think we have a real good track record of predicting and helping nature with its own mechanisms for maintaining a balance.

The plain and unalterable fact is Ray, they don't have a clue. They have a theory they want to be true, and discard any evidence to the contrary.

What balance, the world has gone back and forth between being a frozen ball of ice to having a sub tropical climate in Antarctica.............................and this all happened before the invention of the automobile and the creation of big oil companies

The only correlated fact (not theory) about global warming and cooling is sunspot activity. Car emissions, cows farting, hair spray cans, etc., are all theories. No factual correlation. But, a lot of people are making a lot of money on the global warming industry, and Al Gore is at the top of the list.

primerate...good point on sunspots. Here's NASA/NOAA's predictions of sunspots from their computer models vs. what has been actually happening.
Another good example of models vs. reality. Certainly looks like a CHILLY winter...and those worried about the arctic ice cap should note that it is currently just shy of the long term average ice cover and rising. The polar bears should recover quite nicely!
