We need jobs.... coal and gas the way it is retrieved today does not produce alot of jobs compared to what alternative energy and re-make of the grid will do...it's just that change is hard..denial is easier...making the board and stock-holders happy is not always possible...there are many more reasons for our country to pursue alternative energy than solely to reduce global warming...less pollution/toxic metals etc. entering the food chain is usually seen as good...lots of tech jobs is usually a good thing...learning to harness renewable resources effectively is a good thing...making corporations who have profitted from the old status quo ante up for a change to the new status quo is alright with me...

Here is an interesting article about how the GISS temp reports are inaccurate.

Just my non-scientific take on the global warming issue...whether we are warming or not perhaps we can agree on some other things that will help negate the warming if it is indeed occurring...the cutting of conventional CO2-emitting energy production's main thrust will be to provide good jobs and more regional..more efficient micro-grid energy and water/sewage resource technologies...

That's right Soul...lets invest trillions in unproven technology that is NON competitive in the marketplace to solve a problem that doesn't exist. And let's do it with other peoples money.

Well if you have the time to take this crash course

Crash Course Chapter 1: Three Beliefs | Chris Martenson

which takes over 3 hours, so you need patience,

And then get to its conclusions, you might have one answer.

I'm told by the expert here that it is 1) "a 101" in economics and that its conclusions are 2) "a given". The first didn't surprise me but the second???

I thought it was quite scary.

Soul,
I find it odd you fail to mention the benefits of developing nuclear power for the same results you cite. It has one factor in it's favor that the "renewables" you cite do not; it works, now, today.

Well, the govt subsidizes thousands of wealthy ranchers by giving their cows millions of acres to graze on for next to nothing... subsidizes corporate farms... and is like a crack dealer to a crackhead Detroit...the free ride is over...the deregulation of Reagan has been great for 25 years but it's run it's course...global warming may or may not exist but it's time to shift the gears ...clean up our act and the dirty birds and get this economy rolling again.. the jobs are going to be good...tons of ironworkers for wind...electrical workers...plumbers for water heaters and new graywater micro-plants...and installation techs for solar ..It's going to happen..it's got to happen...or we're screwed and the unemployed millions who will be part of the Chrichton-esque Steinbeck novel that is already beginning to unfold...

Boy, I'll bet Detroit will be glad to hear they've been deregulated. (g)

crackhead detroit? care to 'splain that? detroit has only received more regulation on top of more regulation.
The Chrysler loan guarantee made money for the US govt.

unless you are talking about the 25 billion recently earmarked for development of electric cars. I can't imagine you are against that eh? or perhaps you'd rather we all ride the bus?
