One thing is for certain. There is no evidence that can be acceptable, no matter how compelling or accepted by the scientific community, as reason NOT to implement economy gutting legislation in Congress. The Dems have already had to eat crow on how Iraq would turn out. They won't do it on the Gospel according to Algore.

An illustration of just how far they'll go: EPA 'Cow Tax' Could Charge $175 per Dairy Cow to Curb Greenhouse Gases

I always thought it was wierd that the goverment issued permits that allowed discharges of pollution. We have an oil refinery nearby. In past years, the local paper has done a story on the amount of polutants the refinery has released into the surrounding environment. It's legal for them to do so, because they buy a permit. In John's example, if a dairy farmer was rich enough, he could buy a permit, the cows would now be permited to fart and belch and the government would be happy because they're getting paid for the farts.

Do farts and belches change chemical composition after a permit has been issued?

To "The Man" EVERYTHING changes after a permit is issued.

Kinda OT, but what the heck were are in OT.

In the town I live in you need a permit for any thing. Say you want to plant an Apple tree, Well apple trees are an "Invasive Species". You will need to go to the county office, wait in line, pay, get permit, and last but not least the permit dose NOT allow you to plant your tree. It must be keep in a large bucket or planter, No ground contact allowed.

Next to my home is a seasonal swamp, The water soaks under my house and collects on the crawl space where it is pumped out, Back in to the swamp.
City guy, Whoaa! What is this?

Me, It's the sump pump, pumping YOUR water back out.

City guy, You cant pump that on to our our land.

Me, Where should I pump it to?

City guy, (looks around at swamp on all sides) I don't know.....I think you gotta have a permit to do that?...

Oh the joys of permits.....Not to mention in the end the money for permits is a joke. Everyone knows it. I feel safe saying almost none of that money goes back where it should. IE fixing the original problem.

On a similar note in the lake it self if you have the cash you can build a dock/boat house. The lake is Federal property, I cant even pump water back in to water, but these folks can build docks?

Its a huge deal up here right now, check it out if you are inclined. Lake Tahoe VS The T.R.P.A. I dont think that is the real link, but some google foot work should do it for ya.

EDIT I just googled "TRPA is a joke" and got some fun reading.

Some scientists have been linking global warming or Climate change to Sun Spot activity for some time now; Over the last 10-12 years Sun Flares have been pretty active

Except, this last 14 months Sun Flares activity has fallen off dramatically, and guess what, it's snowing in Africa and this winter season has already started out to be the coldest in a decade.

So what's your guess, Sun Flares, Cow farts or just some good old Bullsh*t??

I've heard of that, isn't that a 3 day Masters course done online, and the first 5 enrollments get a complimentry Nobel peace prize.

I'd do it but, the truth is, it's inconvenient

Hey Aussies & Kiwi's...I know you guys have a pretty heavy upside-down global warming community there and a lot of attention focused on the Great Barrier Reef. So this post is about the GBR and warming.

First though, I am not going to say that the GBR is not in trouble... it may very well be in trouble...but it is not in trouble from global warming.
Here's the newly composed 27 year sea surface temperature record from the GBR published from newly compiled data from NASA. The data is matched to grid cells of 1 degree Latitude and 1 degree longitude and from it the author Aussie John McClean extracted the data applying to the GBR Marine Park and calculated the average across the park for each month. His full article appears here
Great Barrier Reef Sea Temperature and is recapped on Jennifer Marohasy's Environmental Blog today here. Despite her Aussie focus, I read her blog daily and commend her to you for her take on a wide variety of environmental issues.
Bottom line...despite what you have been fed by the media ...there has been NO incrase in sea temperature on the waters of the Great Barrier Reef in the 27 years of recorded data. Here's the graph...

Note the El Nino year of 1998 well reflected. So...if the GBR is threatened...it ain't by temperature. Look to real pollution for answers or perhaps a closer look at the claimed evidence is in order.
G'day!
