Sea Temps Highest Since Record Keeping Began?

I was in New England recently and can confirm that the water was indeed very swimmable. Not necessarily more so than some other recent years, but I don't remember too many instances during my childhood when it was this warm.

In hot water: World sets ocean temperature record

well, john as you get older, the circulation in your legs gets poorer creating a slightly more tolerant to cold syndrome. it's still cold, ya just can't feel it....

So tell me, what what are you trying to show us with these two different scenes that are shot from entirely different places? Most of us know that glaciers recede and advance in response the ongoing local, regional and global climate warmings and coolings, but to illustrate it, it would be better to show the same scene from the same camera placement.

Same location, same camera placement. The second one is at a slightly more wide angle.

I can see it. And the wider angle makes it even more spooky because it's showing much more area that is toasty. Where is/was that thing?

PS - here's a visual to help the imagination-impaired and overly-skeptical...

Yeah, I can see that, but I wouldn't have said "slightly".

Of course, one could be summer, the other winter.

And 1973 was during a period of significant temperature decline. This was when the climate scientists were talking about another ice age and concocting plans to sprinkle black dust on the polar caps to help melt them.

Some receding glaciers in europe have uncovered human villages from the middle ages.

Still and all, the water sure was warm.
