Just read an interesting fact. Since buying into Kyoto, EU CO2 emmisions have gone up 2%. Meanwhile in the evil empire (USA) during the same timeframe, CO2 emmisions have gone down 8%.

xort,
Facts such as these will get you nowhere. The fundamentally important thing is to be "seen" to be doing something. Sign a treaty, have a big news conference, get some face time on the tube, whether you can actually deliver on what you signed up for is immaterial and, besides, by the time the results are in, you'll be long retired.

How'd you know I'm retiring soon?

Rags,
Thanks for the link. Roy Innis rarely pulls his punches and is firmly grounded in reality.
I am always amazed at how the "haves" expect the "have-nots" to acquire success in some novel way that requires no breaking of eggs. "Yes, we built our country by cutting down trees, bulldozing mountains, mining the minerals, and re-routing rivers. But, you should eschew such practises even if it means you'll continue to live in poverty generations hence." Pollution laws, for instance, are the price a successful society pays to keep their land habitable. Very few got to be succesfull by implementing pollution laws first. I do not think that anyone is in favor of pollution, but expecting the third world to have the same high standards we can afford is unrealistic. If they can get to the point where they can afford to buy cars, it won't be that much longer before they can afford to burn lead-free gas. The NGO-weenies believe the solution is to ship them lead-free gas for the cars they can't afford.

The charge of racism could, perhaps, be modified to one of culturalism, although most of these people are brown skinned. Either way, their "betters" always think it's just not the time yet for the indigenous peoples to enjoy what we do. The Eskimo's answer to them was, "Forget the dogs, I'm gettin' me a snowmobile". Their 'betters" are willing to grant them free-will only as long as they make the "right" choice. Blue jeans, radios, and even snowmobiles, are not the 'right' choices, as determined by an endless supply of betters. Of course the "betters" need substantial funding resources, from such as the IMF, as their "solutions" never work and their failure must be subsidized. We used to call such people hypocrites, until we got in the habit of saying we're all hypocrites, thereby finessing the issue of hypocrisy in general.

One has to wonder if there is, anywhere, an electable politican who doesn't believe the answer to any problem is to throw other people's money at it? Cognitive dissonence doesn't come close to explaining the continual reinvention of the flat wheel. As evidenced by their repeated cries of "We didn't spend enough".

For those who think GW isn't political, I direct you to the statement by the new UN Secretary-General. He blames the genocide in Dafur on global warming.
