Conservation Group Petitions to Regulate Carbon Dioxide
Ocean Acidification From Carbon Dioxide Emissions Threatens Marine Life
Quote:
|
Today’s petitions, submitted to California’s Regional Water Quality Control Boards, seek the listing of all ocean waters under the jurisdiction of the state as “impaired” due to the lowering of pH from the absorption of carbon dioxide pollution. Under the Clean Water Act, states must create a list of water bodies that are being degraded or not attaining water-quality standards and set limits on the input of pollutants into these bodies of water to prevent further degradation. In this case, the Clean Water Act would require limits on carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to ocean acidification...............

The Center for Biological Diversity will shortly be submitting similar petitions to all other states that have jurisdiction under the Clean Water Act over ocean waters. Legal action under the Clean Water Act is also being prepared against some of the nation’s largest carbon dioxide emitters for polluting activities that are contributing to ocean acidification.

Over the last 6 yrs I've had the misfortune of dealing with the CBD ( and others ) over land access issues ;
I can only assume their marine agenda follows the same path as their land access agenda( Deep Ecology agenda ), with that said, this is usually how they start out, the filing of petitions to impose restrictions, once their foot is in the door, those restrictions will expand to the point of impacting public access and usability.
When they are focused on a particular ecosystem, any and all intrusion is potentially devastating

John,
There's two ways to look at that article. When considering all of the environmental factors that could have made those bees bug out, how did they manage to settle on cell phone usage? They could have just as easily decided that there were an awful lot of Caucasians present in those areas as well. Then where would we be?

I heard it was a virus affecting the bees. Later this week I will be working in a U.S. Forestry lab, I'll ask and see what they know.

Who is this "denby" person? He is dangerous, he must be silenced.
(denby, be careful-this line may be tapped. My waterfront spies indicate you should be on the lookout for green helicopters in whisper mode) (g)

Well, it has at least as much science behind as ALgore does, so it must be true.........right?
Actually, the reason I posted it, is, because if it would turn out to be true, can you imagine the hue and cry if they had to shut down cell networks to "Save The Planet"? I just don't see Hollywood getting on that particular bandwagon.

Beezer,
Run, don't walk to your patent attorney. You're going to buy Cam's boat to use as a tender when you're done with this.
You have to patent the concept of cellphone credits, or at least a variety of names depicting same. It will be the same as carbon credits in practise. Think of it!!! One of the huge marketing ploys with cellphones is that they make you important. Remember when only doctors had pagers and then phones? Everybody else got 'em because, when they went off in the movie theater, everybody else knew they must be somebody important. You're going to bring that all back, times ten. Cellphone credits will run thousands of dollars a month and the truly important in their own mind will willingly pay. The actually important, like those doctors, will just have to get in line.
Beezer-YOU'RE GONNA BE RICH!!!! (can I play with the stereo on your new tender?)
