When forced to choose between his own ambitions and loyalty to an old friend, he chooses himself. Hmmmm.
Well, he did both. First he stuck by his man, then he discarded his 20 year friendship after checking to see which way the wind was blowing.

Also, while Iraq, the environment and the economy are all important reasons to vote one way or the other, those reasons are small potatos in my opinion compared to the influence the president has in appointing justices. A couple of issues like abortion are simmering below the surface and the issues are so polarizing, that they don't really get discussed anymore. And when you start talking about issues like that on principle, there just isn't any room for compromise.

The recent pols I've seen show that the spread between Hillary and McCain is greater than Obama and McCain. How do you think that will come into play with the electablity issue for the democrats? I suspect that's the reason Hillary hasn't backed out and will be the case she'll make to the super delegates. Even though those pols show she's leading, she's the one I would like to see running against McCain. Obama is a big unknown and it amazes me that the people I know that are Obama supporters can't articulate why they are except they are inspired or they want change.

Hey, here's another reason to like Obama - No. 1 in his class at Harvard Law compared to McCain who was 6th from the bottom at Annapolis.

Havent we had enough of stupid presidents? Lets get a smart one for a change.

Bush sure doesn't come across as sounding intelligent while speaking publicly. Is he stupid though? I have a hard time figuring how a stupid person could be elected to such a high position. Also, if we wanted the smartest people in leadership postions, we wouldn't be electing politicians.

Also, I'm not looking for a reason to like Obama. I believe in choice. Babies ought to have the choice as to whether they'll be killed or not in their mother's womb. People ought to have the choice whether to arm themselves with a firearm to protect themselves when the government has no duty to protect individual citizens. People ought to have a choice on how to live their lives without government interfence. Obama represents the extreme anti-choice candidate IMO. Our values don't mesh so I won't be voting for him.

So it's pretty obvious that's you're voting for him, and it's my recollection that a main reason is because he said he want's to bring the troops home at an appropriate time. I think McCain said the same thing didn't he?

If you consider "100 years" the same thing, then yes.

That's just it. None of the candidates can say when they will have the troops home. Obama says maybe in 3 years. (Maybe not) I for one don't put too much stock in what any of the candidates "promise" to get elected. I go more by what they do, not what they say.

In 3 years, that is great news to the troupes in Korea and Germany.

re: Havent we had enough of stupid presidents? Lets get a smart one for a change

WASHINGTON (USATODAY.com) — While the general impression during the 2004 presidential campaign was that Democrat John Kerry was the intellectual superior to President Bush, it turns out that their grades while undergraduate students at Yale were remarkably similar.
In fact, Bush's were a tad higher. His four-year average was 77; Kerry's 76. Both were C students. Kerry graduated from Yale in 1966; Bush in 1968.

In 1999, The New Yorker published a transcript indicating that Bush had received a cumulative score of 77 for his first three years at Yale and a roughly similar average under a non-numerical rating system during his senior year.

There is no doubt in my mind that Obama is way smarter than McCain. I would rather have a dumb republican than a smart socialist.

The last "smart" president we had was Jimmy Carter, the nuclear engineer, and you saw where that got us. Just in case you're in doubt, the mental giant is currently courting Hamas and Hezbollah in the Middle East in an effort to subdue the war-mongering state of Israel. Obama shows great potential to make us miss Jimmy. Fortunately there is an adult alternative.

Given the paroxysms that the Dem's go through over the execution of the democratic process it's going to be interesting to see how they explain the disenfranchisement of two entire states in their primary process.

On a quiet night you can still hear lonely Dem's whining about Florida in the '00 election and even Ohio in the '04 election although it's difficult to distinguish the latter's noise from a cricket's mating call. But now they just say that MI and FL don't exist as far as nominating their next canidate goes.

Let's not get sidetracked by the idea that they're penalizing the state party's over the matter for going out of turn. These are the people so obsessed with making every vote count that they actually sometimes count dead people's votes in Illinois just in case the coroner was wrong. Some Dem's even vote numerous times, just to make sure one sticks. Now they're going to ignore two whole states, in a close election? Were I a Florida or Michigan Democrat I'd be upset.

A side effect of this is the effect it will have on Detroit's economy. Limo drivers count on the influx of Democrat dollars at election time. They spend countless hours ferrying people to the polls. Some say that some of the people only vote for the limo ride but I don't believe that. I just hope they can make do until the general election as there isn't much traffic from Detroit out to the Piston's games, gas being what it is and all.
