When they realized how much money and power (is that redundant?) was in it.

For some random thoughts by Dr. Thomas Sowell that I found interesting,

Watch very carefully

Carville said recently that the Dems are fully capable of blowing the election in 2008. More and more articles such as the one below are starting to appear. And, believe me, the Detroit Free Press does not want to see a Republican back in the White House.

I'm going to go out on a limb and state that Bill Richardson is the only Democrat that can defeat "name a republican front runner" in the general election. Nearly 50% of the electorate has a negative opinion of Hillary. A few years ago Obama was in charge of not much in Springfield, Illinois. These are the front-runners. The old Wendy's commercial, and Gary Hart, said, "Where's the Beef?" Richardson, among the also rans, is the beef. Will the Democratic party nominate him? I wouldn't hold my breath.

The Dems may keep the Congress. "Name a Republican front-runner" will win the White House in 2008. You read it here first.

I don't think so. I think there's a big backlash coming and Hillary and company are raking in the bucks now to ride that wave later. Personally, I'd prefer just about anyone to her, but I do recognize a political machine when I see one.

Now, if republicans could catch Slick Willy with his pants down once more between now and the election..... all bets are off.

Yet Another Clinton Chinese funny money scandal flies mostly under the radar, while the press follows, eagerly, the Borking of General Petreaus. Obviously, the Dems have carefully calclated just how gullible the American public is.

Too true, John.

Note the Washington Compost article below and the blog as well. Odd how the Post makes no mention of the scope of the donations. But then I must be forgetting that the Republicans are the party of corruption. Although, I do not think it was Republicans who made possible the resurgence of an old phrase, "Arkansas land deal".

Even money says it's swept aside with a "they all do it" and gone in a month.

Looks like the Dems will pick up another seat in the Senate next year:

Mark Warner will take John Warner's old seat.

Neal Volz entered the latest plea (H/T to petwrecker) in the Jack Abramoff/Bob Ney/you name it GOP sweepstakes investigation. And this little nugget of respect for the rule of law popped out at me:

Prosecutors told the court that Volz received abusive phone calls from Ney when the congressman suspected he was cooperating with the government. Volz “retained some of the recorded messages and provided them to the government,” prosecutors wrote in papers filed with the court. Those recordings, they said, “would have been powerful evidence of Ney’s consciousness of guilt had Ney elected to fight the charges against him and proceed to trial.”

Now, honestly, how stupid are you to leave threatening phone messages on the answering machine of an aide you believe to be cooperating with authorities? Doesn’t that just scream “arrest my sorry ass”?
