Cam,
Thanks for the Glen Beck lead. I can sometimes pull in the GR station in the morning, a 50,000 watt blowtorch it ain't.

I mistated myself in the GW thread, to the degree that I meant that religious groups are not persecuting others in western civilizations. The Jews were persecuted, and continue to be, for religious reasons, but the persecution prior to and during WWII was done by an atheist led government. The only serious religion led persecution I see currently involves Muslims. They seem to be willing to persecute any people or culture that is not Islamic. And, in regard to western civilization, the only persecution being done seems to be by Muslims against Muslims and non-Muslims. I continue to believe that Dog's comment was a cheap shot, ignoring the far greater good that religion has done in the world over what is really ancient history.

Giu..we don't hear much about Portugal history here. We know about Franco in Spain but tell me a little about Facism in Portugal. What made it facist as opposed to a simple dictatorship?

You heard of him for sure...he was s Fascist Dictator!!!! Ruined Portugal with his "closed" border policy.....destroyed us...took us 20 years to recup.

What moron thought Chris Matthews would be a good choice for moderator of the Republican debate? The man is the walking embodiment of every ex-wife story I've ever heard.

And, btw, what ever happened to "debate"? Neither Lincoln, nor Douglas, would recognize these sound-bite opportunities. Is it necessary to dumb down politics to meet the state of the American educational system?

I fear any politician who stands on the pulpit and proclaims that he knows what the people want or promotes causes "in the name of the people", "in the name of the children"

Particlularly if he puts himself forth as the one to give it to them.

The last four years has been nothing but political bickering with one party trying to put down the other, and in effect nothing has been done of any importance "for the people"
