Baseball-Opening Day
Week after this, on April 2nd, it is opening day for baseball.
Personally, I think baseball is the ultimate radio broadcast game and hence the perfect background sound for working on the boat. Things have changed a bit, but you can still here yells, and wails of anguish, from all the "Harry Homeowners" up and down the block while out working on the house or boat, depending on what just happened in the game.
Even if you're not a baseball fan, everybody knows that opening day the the single most consistent predicter of the nearness of summer. March 21 is just a number on a calender to most, if they're playin' ball down at the yard good things are comin'.

Alot of people around here say the same about cricket! . I stopped listening or watching after the Expos left Montreal !
Here in the (Commonwealth) Caribbean everyone watches (or listens) to the games.
Come to think of it.. some of the rules are the same

It's the same with the cricket broadcasts down here. I'm more than happy to listen and not watch but even when I watch cricket on the box I still listen to the radio commentary. On the other hand can anyone nominate two more boring effing games than baseball and cricket ? Next thing you know they will be televising darts and poker !! No they don't , do they ? Well I never.
By the bye, have any of you ever seen a motor sport called tractor pulling ? Now kiddies, if you want boring.......

Hey guys, I am not trying to brag, but I just want to show you this because my son and I are very excited about it (so are all my friends ). This is the view from our cockpit to AT+T park, home of the SF Giants. Don't mind the Hunter. We are only at this marina until the end of April, then we move around to the other side of the City. But, April! WooHoo!
Like you, I love to listen to the game on the radio, we have really witty announcers. So we will go to a few games and sit dockside for a bunch more and listen to the crowd roar. Should be a great experience for my son, only wish we didn't have to leave .

Usually the only thing I agree with tdw on is the fact that Red Square just doesn't look the same. In this case, I do agree that baseball can be boring, unless it is on the radio or you are at the game. Watching baseball, or golf, on TV is to ruin the game for the viewer. Radio announcers are much better as they have to describe what is going on. A TV announcer, for a baseball game, is a waste of time as everything you need to know is right in front of you and they never identify the woman in the stands with the big cantalopes and the thin T-shirt!
But, if one is doing a project the pace of the game is perfect. You can concentrate on your project and just sort of absorb the game. You can't do that with other sports, where you are always saying, "what happened?"

Sailaway thanks for reminding me that there is something more boring than baseball or cricket....Golf. What an effing miserable load of old tosh that is. What is it they say about golf ? Good way to ruin a nice walk ? My brother plays every week and wants me to have a go. Piss off, I'll be in the clubhouse holding up the bar. As for watching it on TV, you have got to be joking. I'd rather listen to a Dicky boy Cheney speech. Just as boring but shorter.
Anyway, nice to know we agree on something occasionally.

The Yanks may have to crawl to opening day -- seems like the entire rotation is injured.
At this point, Pavano is the unofficial Opening Day starter for this storied franchise -- hardly a man that personifies the Yankees ethic.

I can't believe you guys lost that Series last year.
The AL Central is going to be even tighter.
Look out, the Sox are going to be making a come back this year. Were coming for you.

Just you wait, the year after the Giants get rid of Bonds, we are going to the Series! This is one San Franciscan that can't stand Bonds.

I grew up in the Cincinnati area with The Big Red Machine of the 70's. Loved 'em. When Pete Rose got busted I was crushed, & haven't followed much of any sports since.
Tried again recently with football, but everyone knows The Bengals are getting busted left & right. Think I'll stick to music as background noise.
