Sailing on Hydroptere looks like it'd be a lot of fun... multihulls have set a lot of records... including an upset in the 32nd America's Cup way back in DC's heyday... trouncing the much larger monohull.
Ellen MacArthur set a solo round the world record in a trimaran back in 2005.
Orange II, Bruno Peyron's catamaran set the Transatlantic crewed record last year.
In fact, the last three fastest circumnavigation records were done in three different multihulls: Francis Joyon in the trimaran IDEC; Ellen MacArthur in the trimaran B&Q; and Bruno Peyron in the catamaran Orange II. Joyon and MacArthur did it single-handed, and Peyron had crew.
Another good clue is to look at the WSSC ratified distance records, and notice that a majority of the entries are multihulls.
I guess that answers who sails a trimaran... or a multihull anyways...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
