I get the impression this thread is not really about trimarans, but I've been drooling over one that is for sale locally; it seems like a really cool boat, anyone have an opinion?

I'm not a big fan of Piver designs particularly. Also, almost all were home-built plywood construction, and as such, aren't usually the best constructed or most seaworthy.

While cold-molded plywood boats can be very nice and very seaworthy, most of the Piver-designs were not made using cold molded techniques.

If you want a larger trimaran, I would look at a Dick Newick or Chris White designed boat. They will be considerably more expensive, since their construction techniques are generally much more modern and seaworthy. Skyhook, a 39' Chris White design recently sold for $150,000 or thereabouts.

BTW, this thread was never really about trimarans, as it was started by a mad portagee with a fat boat. He's just pissed off that we can go places that his boat, which draws almost 10' can't, and that a 28' trimaran recently blew the doors off of his fat 42' boat.

PS. Giu's boat, Giulietta is a beautiful boat, and very nice, if you like boats that can't go a lot of places, but do so fairly quickly. I wouldn't own one like it... since I prefer smaller, more versatile boats.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Thanks for the opinion, I guess I knew the plywood hull was sort of questionable, but $20K for 40', is a pretty good deal. I've also come to understand that Giu's posts are normally a little off (topic), as is his sense of humor.
