OH - Whatever!!!!

A single freaking bridge collapses (I could not tell you the last time it happened where it was not caused) and CNN is running a poll asking whether or not YOU FEEL THE NATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE IS CRUMBLING!!!!

COME ON FOLKS!!! GET A FREAKING GRIP!

News has absolutely gotten out of hand. Anything for a story.

Geez!! Don't feel safe taking a bridge anymore?? Well, stay at home, buy a plane or buy a boat. UGH!!

Sorry, that just cracks me up.

Actually, up here in Taxachusetts, many of the bridges are in dire shape and will probably be joining the one in Minneapolis.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

AAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 66% of the respondents said they beleive the infrastructure is collapsing!!

I am sailing off for another country. Nice knowing you guys. Mine is falling apart.

Whatever.

Why couldn't they say, "Do you feel that many of the bridges in the US could use more inspections... or could use some oversight... or could use another paint job!" NOOOO!!!! You know why, becuase that does not create panic. Instead, "... the infrastructure is crumbling... we are all going to die... tune into CNN this evening for..."

WHATEVER!!

Cardiac Paul. Where are you? Let's go sailing... oh wait, I forgot, our damn is going to explode (yes, I have heard that one lately too), and you don't want to be on the lake when that happens!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

That, my friends, is why I avoid the news and spend my time here, on Sailnet, where the word is honest, the opinions gospel, everyone is exactly what they seem, and the photoshopping fine art.

CD-

Most third world countries would like you to come over... since they would gain a lot of power infrastructure by merely tieing your boat into their national power grid.

You got that right, Baby. Giu keeps begging me to sail over and power Europe. I am thinking about it... but then he will get lazy, want to buy a motor boat because I beat him everytime we race, then you have more greenhouse gases.. you know. A vicious cycle.

It's not like this is new. Back about a 20 years ago the Miannis River bridge fell which is I95 in right at the CT/NY border. I think they ran that same poll.

I look forward to global warming, having Arizona underwater will make for a great sail thru the gulf. Oh hold it, wasn't Az underwater before? Must have been those darn dinosaurs in their SUVs towing their boats.

Whatever!

CD - Without igniting an argument along nationalist lines, are there any news services in the States that even try to eschew sensationalism? This is not a criticism of US-based news stations. I'm actually asking if there are any, because I would watch.

Running a poll like the one you describe, and airing footage of Paris Hilton leaving jail, points to the erosion of something far more fundamental than infrastructure.

Hyperion- I take no offense. Having traveled the world, seen many things that most should not see, one thing always comes to mind. The news in the US S***Ks. If I want factual news I go to another countries site like BBC LOL sad but true

I agree with the points about the 'infotainment' industry, but the infrastructure just so happens to really BE crumbling (lived in CT, bridges almost as bad as those up by SD). The real pity is that next week we'll have some new 'crisis' and this will be forgotten (except by the families and friends of those lost) because 'attention span' is just a phrase your mother uses to annoy you, and 'focus' is just something people used to have to do with cameras.
