I just got and installed Adobe CS3 Premium... they've integrated Flash and Dreamweaver into the Suite now, and gotten rid of GoLive...

I have elements2, Elements 3 and CS2. I find that almost everything I do in PS can be done in elements. CS allows me to use more scripting tools and plugins and I like the masking and layering better but I don't know if it was worth the extra $$ and the learning curve is pretty great.
I mainly use PS to work on my underwater Pics
For element tools, plugins and Tutorials just google it. There is a wealth of stuff out there. I think youcan easily increase the functionality of elements with some plugins and filters.

Originally, when this thread first started, I thought it said "Photoshop Fool" which made me think of our resident Portagee.

Where you a Golive user? I was wondering what would happen with the takeover of Macromedia, now I know.
I agree that you can do most things with just Elements if all you are doing is photos, heck, you can do most amateur stuff with Aperture. But, if you are doing any web stuff or media presentations, you really benefit from CS.
Basic programs offer a lot these days. I just made a 15 minute video for the admiral's business. It was sent to a producer in NY to be submitted to LA for a show about training animals. The NY producer said she was very impressed with the video. Funny, I did it with iMovie and iDVD without even reading the instructions.

BF-
Never really liked GoLive, had both DWMX and GL on my machine, but used DWMX for 99.999% of what I did. The few times I used GL were for clients who had GL based sites, and just needed my help tweaking them.
The better product won out... Fireworks and Freehand are both dead too.
Aperture doesn't really allow you to edit photos. It does give you quite a bit of control over the white balance, cropping, levels and such, but no real editing capabilities IMHO. I have it and use it as my archiving/cataloging program.

SD - right, when I said amateur I meant REALLY amateur, like no editing, just crop and print, maybe a little color shift. Aperture is a lot of fun, although sometimes I still hit a button and have no idea what has just happened or where my photo has gone to. But easy to get back. Definitely works well for my projects and keeping them organized. I use iphoto for my daily family photos and stuff, and Aperture for my business stuff. Gotta love the loupe!
