Nauticat is probably in contention, with their 331. At least I think that's under $300k.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Hmmm BF, does that mean you're trading in your 5 kts for a 10 knter?

Grand Banks, single screw, long range, comfort. When I get too old to sail, I'll probably get one of these.

Not sure if you meant new or used...no new GB can be had for 300k,

Trawler under 300k is a Krogen. Better plan on the whole 300 though. It will be close to 20 years old. If you want to spend a little less money, but a semidisplacement, Albin 43 Sundeck is a very nice made boat. Twin screw. Budget about 170-200k. Both boats are very nice liveaboards.

As far as the MY... I don't know. I am a bit uneducated on them. Maybe an old Jefferson? You can pick up a 15-20 year old one for about 300k.

One of my dockmates is selling his 2002 34' American Tug - "Scotch 'n Soda" - nice boat with a great pilothouse. You could pick it up for less than 300k - fully equipped.

Although not my first choice if I was switching over - but from what I've seen during a party last year - it is impressive and fully equipped. He's moving up and taking a huge hit on it. The downside to the layout is - only one double berth . . . definitely a couple's boat.

Seems to me, if you have to worry about the price of a trawler, et al, you probably aren't going any where in it, cause you won't be able to afford the fuel.

PB,

The trawlers are very efficient. The Albin, a semi, burns 4.3-4.6 gph as I recall. That is hull speed. The Nords and Krogens are in the 3's as I recall.

Of course, you are saying: well, my sailboat does not require any diesel... but that is not true. Most cruisers probably use their main engine more than their sails (being honest).

PS I spoke to the friend of mine on that Taswell 49. He left Monday for the Carribean. I called him as he was in the Houston SHip Channel. First leg to Tampa, then south. I wish I knew he was leaving so soon, I would have hooked you two up.

Wouldn't have been hooked up for long with that extra 17 feet of LOA.

I know the trawlers are efficent, but still, we're talking fillups in the hundreds and some of them, the thousands. I know I have to buy diesel as well, but not as much, not as often.
